Balham
This first and second-floor maisonette has been recently refurbished by my young client’s interior designer mother- it looks fantastic, timelessly stylish, but with a tired and overlooked garden which really didn’t do it justice. Taking inspiration from contemporary sources I put together some initial design proposals which were enthusiastically received. The design of the new blue fence was inspired by a feature in The Garden magazine – it’s a brilliant way to create privacy and add colour, making a feature of the boundary itself and a backdrop for the simple design of geometric hedging and informal airy planting against a floorscape of decorative tiled paving, slatey gravel, and timber decking. Bulbs will make an appearance in spring and early summer and the planting will almost look after itself, leaving my delighted client more time to enjoy her growing garden.
