Large Seaside Garden
The design intention for this project was to create a simple flowing garden which envelops the house, providing a range of internal views across a large open naturally curved lawn, surrounded by trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and bulbs which will provide a series of highlights throughout the changing seasons.
The balance of sun and shade, and existing mature trees leads to a variety of niches, each with a subtly different planting character, encouraging exploration: the garden as a journey, not just a set piece to be
viewed from afar.
The planting has a naturalistic feel, working with what is already there, with low- maintenance being a major consideration, and all newly planted areas have been liberally mulched with composted woodchip, which will both nourish the soil, conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Bare fencing and views into neighbouring properties have been screened by carefully sited trees, which will mature over the years.
